The SVTIX Story

SVTIX is a locally owned and operated telecommunications hotel facility ("Telco hotel") and full-service co-location center. In March 2000 SVTIX launched its services in a 94,700 square foot, purpose-built data center. Our impressively constructed building, with steel-reinforced, poured-in-place concrete floor and walls, is formerly designated as a Civil Defense Air Raid Bomb Shelter, offering rock-solid physical security. This Telco-grade facility meets all new seismic construction, ADA and other codes and includes all new Telco-grade roofing. It is situated near a PG&E power substation and also provides back-up diesel generators, delivering critical power redundancy.

SVTIX recently acquired a $22 million, fully operational co-location and data transport facility from Enron. With a zero cost basis and the flexibility that comes with being locally owned and operated, SVTIX is positioned as the high quality provider of choice for co-location space and services. SVTIX is one of a handful of select sites that provides diverse fiber access to multiple Tier-1 and regional telecommunications providers in a carrier-neutral environment, allowing companies to choose from multiple providers for their business. Our 6/10 mile distance to MAE West and proximity to the SBC RBOC switch provides multiple advantages, including faster interconnect speeds and significant fiber transfer cost savings. And because SVTIX resides on the same power grid as Pacific Gas & Electric’s downtown power substation and employs back-up diesel generators, customers are assured of power redundancy to keep their mission-critical operations running smoothly.

The New Telco Hotel and
Network Access Point (NAP)

A Telco hotel is a multi-tenanted, carrier-neutral facility that meets the specific location and infrastructure requirements of the telecommunications industry. It provides last mile access, zero local loop charges, managed meet-me room services and the fully conditioned facilities necessary for carriers to establish a point of presence (POP) or large data center installation for their worldwide networks. There are Telco hotel-type facilities in most major metropolitan areas, including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, San Francisco, Dallas and Denver, among others. SVTIX is the only site-specific, carrier-neutral, multi-tenanted carrier hotel and co-location facility with multiple Tier-1 telecommunication carriers and MAE West / PAIX connectivity available in downtown San Jose. Unlike other facilities, SVTIX is not a commercial office building, but a carrier-class, purpose-built facility.

SVTIX is in the process of creating a new metropolitan access exchange (MAE) where various Internet service providers (ISPs) and other Internet-based entities can connect to each other to exchange Internet traffic. This new network access point (NAP) is intended to provide a purely neutral peering point and exchange for all who look to drive data traffic.
